Virtual Therapy
The Basics
Virtual therapy has been a thing long before the pandemic. Personally, I have been providing art therapy and psychotherapy services virtually since 2018.
Virtual therapy makes accessing therapeutic services easier, but it’s certainly not meant for everyone. Within the virtual space, we will be limited in expressions and tones; it can be really hard to read a person (and the therapist). If this is something you think might be more difficult, let me know- I’m always happy to problem-solve and figure out accessibility things if I can.
I use only the most secure platforms I can find (and afford!), because your privacy is most important to me.
What do I need for virtual therapy?
A secure internet connection. Ideally, something with a password and that isn’t a public connection.
A device equipped with a webcam, microphone and speaker
JaneApp Profile. You’ll get this when we book your consultation!
JaneApp will send you the meeting link 30 minutes before your appointment.
We recommend using Chrome based browser to connect.
A space that’s private. Also, keep in mind what might be seen on camera - your therapist is now in your space.
Advised but not necessary:
A comfy sitting place and table top.
Headphones.
Remove as many distractions as possible (silence your phone, shut down email, etc.)
Art Therapy At Home
Since you will be at home, it's your responsibility to set up the art space and have materials on hand. If you have none, we can make a plan and work with what you have. Digital art is always welcome, too!
What if I booked virtual but I want to come into the office? Or the other way around?
That’s totally cool! We are often flexible to meet needs as life happens! If you are unsure, it’s easier to book in person and switch to online than the other way around. Simply contact your therapist as soon as you can to ensure there isn’t a delay in your meeting time.
I need to know more!
Alright, let’s chat in the consultation!
